2019 Hall of Fame in Review

What a fun evening our 2019 Hall of Fame Celebration was earlier this month. The Wisconsin Senior Olympics is proud to have inducted four inspiring athletes to the WSO Hall of Fame:

  • Candy Christensen
  • William Payne
  • Ladislav Sranko
  • Bill Wambach

During the evening at the Pettit National Ice Center, we enjoyed an energetic keynote speech from WSO athlete and ESPN Milwaukee's Steve "Homer" True.

Then many athletes were recognized for a variety of accomplishments including:

  • Winning 5 or more medals at the 2018 WSO Games.
  • Setting records during the 2018 WSO Games
  • People who qualified for the 2019 National Senior Games this June in Albuquerque
  • First time athletes

A couple of athlete stories stand out:

  • Duncan Beck who has competed in over 40 other state senior games over the years
  • Betty Sweeney who has journeyed to lose over 100 pounds after the age of 70.
  • Dick Naslund and his daughter Jana Braun, an intergenerational family competing in the games

An amazing amount of people qualified and are going to the 2019 June National Senior Games in Albuquerque. Many attended the event and gathered in front for a group photo.
